The Three Shires

Saturday May 21st   saw disabled-angler.co.uk unveil their new charity series: The Three Shires and this the first in this new series of charity fund raising events was held at Leicestershire’s Holly Farm fishery. On the notorious Trotters Lake.

The day started with glorious sunshine after a very cold night. But before the 9am draw was finished black clouds loomed overhead and rain and cold winds dominated the days proceedings, which made the fishing very difficult indeed.

Anglers had come from, as far a field as Yorkshire and the winner on the day was Yorkshire Tykes very own Andrew Archer. Andrew put in a credible performance on pole and meat tactics to clinch the win with 21Ibs of carp and tench.

Andrew a disabled angler proved once again that he is a very capable adversary by beating some high-class open experts present on the day.

One of those experts was 2nd placed Holly Farm fishery regular Steve Degg, Steve fished the method feeder tight to the island using red maggot to tempt several reluctant carp for 19Ibs 8ozs.

There was another regular from the same family fishing 9 year-old Ryan a definite star for the future.  He told me he will fish for England one day and I have to agree with him, after watching this young man fish a power pole at 11mtrs.

3rd spot went to Alan Goodson fishing peg 1 he chopped and changed between pole and feeder to amass a weight of 19Ibs 2ozs.

The day was a great success and felt more like a club match than an open event with friendly banter being the order of the day.  Maybe the ethos reflected the reason why we had all gathered and that was to raise funds for terminally ill children.

The day started for many with one of Rita’s hearty breakfasts and ended with refreshments in Holly Farm’s new clubhouse. Featured in disabled-anglers accessible fisheries page.

The day was officiated by disabled-anglers very own charity events coordinator John Buxton (Bucko) Chairman Neil Ross (Bliss) Secretary Dirk Williams.  We would like to thank Linda Buxton for all her hard work-Tony Hurst for doing such a splendid job weighing-in and Del the fishery owner for the use of his facilities and his generous contribution towards the charity fund. And of course to all the anglers, for supporting this new venture. Helping to make the day such a great success, thank-you.
