The final invitation match of this years
charities championship came on Saturday at the lovely Misterton
hall, probably the nicest looking venue we have fished this year.
With sunny skies and good company it was always going to be a
great day. On this occasion I was accompanied by my lovely wife
Sharon and my two children as this was to be a family volunteering
session, with Sharon cooking breakfast and my two children running
the guess-the-weight competition.
We arrived at around 7 30 to fire up the
Bar-B-Q so all the hungry anglers would get a cuppa and a bite to
eat on their arrival, shortly after organiser bucko and his lovely
wife turned up and got ready for the competitors who soon arrived
one after another. I
sent the kids round with the guess-the-weight sheet and helped
Sharon with the Bar-B-Q.
The draw started as always promptly at: 9
30 and all 24 anglers disappeared eagerly to there pegs, as we had
to be off the water for 4 30 timing was very important on this
match, having the payout at a local hostelry afterwards, had
nothing to do with motivating anglers to pack away quickly but it
helped.
Bucko as usual blew the whistle to start
the match, the weather was perfect it was fine and with very
little wind but the fishing was alas not as good as it might have
been. I drew peg 11
the one my daughter had fished on Monday when I took my family for
a practice, so I was really looking forward to getting some fish
after the results we had, but I only caught 2 goldfish for 2lb
4ozs only a mere 20lb less than my daughter had caught on our
practice session, The lads gave me some stick for it I can tell
you.
"Are you sure you want
to weigh these Wayne?"

The match went with out any major
incidents for a change, there was no torrential rain and high
winds as on the previous match but there was one disaster for poor
Gill Hurst who had a Goose land on her pole breaking one of the
sections.
Winner of guess-the-weight competition was John
Sime who won a shimano feeder rod, and second was Neil (Bliss)
Ross pictured below, who won a pellet pump and some pellets, with
guess-the-weight raising £50 and a couple of donations from
generous anglers this was another great fund raising session,
thank you to everyone for all there help turning these matches
into a superb success with all places filled for the final and
some very good anglers it promises to be another great day at
holly farm I look forward to seeing everyone there.
