Heyford fishery was constructed in 1990 as Britain's first purpose-built match fishery.  It provides a superb fishing venue for both match and day-ticket anglers.

The fishery is designed to produce fish equally from all 131 pegs and is now established as one of the most consistent fisheries in the Midlands, attracting top angler from all over the country.

The standard of maintenance ensures that the paths are mown regularly and litter removed daily.

Platforms

All 131  pegs on Heyford Fishery are constructed from one 600x600 slab centered in an aproximate 2mtr square fishing area.  As you can see form the picture above the surrounding area is grassed and there is a drop down onto most pegs, going from slight to quite steep.

Car Park

The car park can accommodate some 80 vehicles, there is no designated disabled parking.  Constructed from densely packed stone -  It is level with the odd loose stone and several pot-holes but is negotiable with relative ease.

Access

Access to all pegs from the car park, is via a 1.5mtr wide pathway which is level, with a densely compacted surface. You then transfer onto a grassed area before reaching the pegs.  However permission can be gained for disabled anglers to park their vehicles behind pegs; depending on the weather conditions and the time of year.

Toilets

There are toilet facilities which are fully accessible to wheelchair users..

Danglers Thoughts & Tips

We at disabled-angler have no qualms in recommending a visit to Heyford fishery.  The fishery is quite outstanding having excellent facilities. The fishery is very accessible other than the pegs themselves; as wheelchair users would need assistance. From the car park to the first peg, peg (1) pictured above left, is approximately 30 mtrs.  The venue holds a large head of carp reaching double figures with shoals of roach and chub.  The average water depth is around 6 ft and deep close in.  Fish can be caught on a variety of methods, pole fished tight to the reeds is always good.  The width of the fishery varies from 13 - 16 mtrs.   On every peg there is a casting-matt, the idea is to cast on to it, then draw your tackle back so it drops into the water tight to the bank where the fish patrol.
