The Three Shires
Castle Ashby

Saturday July 16th 2005 saw disabled-angler.co.uk unveil the second event in their new charity series: The Three Shires and once again this charity event was to raise much needed funds for Francis House Children's Hospice and what a response we had from this well loved fishery at Castle Ashby having 34 anglers line the banks in hope of winning the £102 first prize & the additional other 6 placings.

The weather was a bit of a contrast from the first match we held at Holly farm, where we wore warm clothing and left holding on to our umbrellas because of the high winds & torrential rain.  But not at Castle Ashby the only umbrellas used were to keep off the sun.  The fishing attire was shorts and T/shirts,  as the day was bathed in glorious sunshine.

One angler Tony Richens really got into the spirit of the days proceedings and kept cool with his self made vest. "Well it is for Charity" said Tony and quite rightly too.

As this was an Open event it had attracted some very good anglers from across the midlands.  Some anglers were regulars on the venue and had a few tricks up their sleeves.  One being the use of  floating baits and the king of the floaters on the day was Terry Lancaster (Castle Ashby) with the match winning weight of 52Ibs 12ozs from peg 27 Terry caught steadily all through the match; using dog biscuit as his chosen bait.

Under the guidance of Mike Hewlett the owner of Castle Ashby, some of the regulars had raised extra funds for Francis house through sponsorship.  Raising an incredible £182
Thanks guys it is much appreciated.

Below you can see Mick adjudicating the weigh-in

A Section winner S. Smart he caught10Ibs of skimmers and a solitary carp on the pole. Below: he can be seen receiving his winnings from disabled-anglers.co.uk Chairman Neil Ross (Bliss) who is the currently leading the point system for disabled anglers.

The day started and ended with refreshments; firstly in Castle Ashby's very own immaculately presented restaurant, with a full English breakfast and tea for £4 "great value" Castle Ashby fishery is featured in disabled-anglers  accessible fishery guide.
The day ended as many of our events do with a visit to the nearest hostelry :) and in this case it was to the Working Men's Club in Cogenhoe.  I must say a big thank you to the club for the use of their facilities again, and to its members as I know many of them contributed to the sponsorship of Francis House.

A big thank-you to Mick Hewlett for his continued support his help on the day and for laying on refreshments in the club afterwards.  To all the guys that helped to weigh-in and of course to all the officers present on the day.  And not forgetting the anglers who took part, for without your generous support it would not have been possible.

We raised £379 on the day thanks Castle Ashby
Running total: Three Shires £518
